Blessed

God’s calling comes with promises of blessings. Which may be contrary to what people think of God’s calling. Some think that if they were to truly follow after God, then there are only sacrifices to be made. And indeed there are sacrifices. There is the story that is told about an encounter that a rich man had with Jesus. You can read about it in Matthew 19:16-22.
Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”

“Which ones?” the man inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

The only things that we are to give up are those things that would come before God. This man had stuff. All he could see was what he would have to give up. What he didn’t see was all that he would gain. This rich man could be like a person who was offered an all expense paid trip around the world that would last upwards of a year. On his way to the airplane, which is due to leave in 10 minutes, he passes a table. On this table are wonderful pastries, savory meats, and sumptuous beverages. It is an all-you-can-eat affair. The only problem is to eat means to stay. Would it be a great sacrifice to get on the plane?

So the rich man rejected the opportunity of a lifetime, for an opportunity for the day. Some see only what they have to give up, and never understand the great benefits of giving one’s self entirely to God. Thus, God is rejected before the trip is ever started.

But, God’s calling comes with incredible blessings. You can be sure that you will find great blessings for you when you sell out and follow God with all your heart, soul, mind.  Don’t take my word for it, look at what the Bible says.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:8

Thou wilt make known to me the path of life; In Thy presence is fullness of joy; In Thy right hand there are pleasures forever.

Psalm 16:11

Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame."

1 Peter 2:6

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory, which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

Sell out. Follow Him. You’ll be blessed!
