Nesting Bowl Set

I love the way this set turned out. The glaze is call Ancient Jasper. The great thing about the glaze is that it has a different outcome ever time you use it. If you fire it a little cooler, then one color come out a little more strongly than if you fire it hotter. Even the type of clay that you use will influence the way the glaze finishes. If the pottery piece has different textures on the the body, then various colors will break out on the high points, while another color settles into the low points. So each new piece is an adventure in glaze which puts a little mystery into each piece.
In this set the glaze has a patches of a sagey green that melts into hues of blue. Floating on those colors are patches of of a lovely read. In a few places the pieces were just slightly kissed with touches of gold. The over all effect is that these bowls end up having a very intriguing look at every turn. If they end up on display, one would want to turn the bowls occasionally just so the bowls can show off new feel.

On the side of each bowl are various stripes of exposed raw clay. The clay itself is a rich chocolate color that is a beautiful compliment to the Ancient Jasper glaze.

Each bowl decreases in size. The largest bowl is just over 4" tall, and is about 7 1/2" wide. The middle bowl is 3 1/2" tall, and just over 6" wide. The smallest bowl is just under 2 1/2" tall, and just under 4 1/2" wide.

This set is now in a private collection.
